The Story Behind Our Mission
Pathirakha Pratishthan was born from a simple yet powerful realization: the transgender community in Maharashtra faced systemic barriers that prevented them from accessing basic rights and opportunities that most of us take for granted.
In 2019, our founder Dr. Priya Sharma witnessed firsthand the struggles of transgender individuals trying to obtain basic identity documents. What should have been a straightforward process became a months-long ordeal filled with discrimination, bureaucratic hurdles, and social stigma.
This experience sparked the creation of Pathirakha Pratishthan - an organization dedicated to bridging the gap between the transgender community and the services they deserve. We started with documentation support and have since expanded to comprehensive community empowerment programs.
Today, we're proud to have transformed thousands of lives, but our work is far from over. Every day brings new opportunities to create positive change and build a more inclusive Maharashtra.
